After a strong April and May, June highlighted the economic climate, compounded by costs from the promotional sales we were excited to land.
I see light at the end of the tunnel, but sometimes my train seems to back up or the tunnel stretches longer.
Still, I see that light, and JP Graphics continues to recover from COVID’s impact.
The pandemic taught us valuable lessons, and we’re grateful we pivoted to medical and pharmaceutical print and packaging. June, however, didn’t deliver the expected quarter-end order surge, and JP Graphics felt the slowdown. Instead of resting, we took action. Rather than sending our team home, we focused on training, guided by the adage: What do you do when you don’t have anything to do? You clean, organize, and train to prepare for the upsurge. That’s what we did, and our June Employee of the Month, Ramon Rios Gonzalez, reflects the success of this approach.
Ramon joined our bindery team in June 2023 through a friend’s referral. A skilled saxophonist performing in bands on nights and weekends, he found a perfect match with JP Graphics—a day job offering growth and skill development. Eager to learn, Ramon mastered stitchers, binders, and folders, then asked Norbi to train him on die-cutters. With Norbi’s guidance and our strict processes, Ramon now excels at die-cutting. When I pass by with a salute or thumbs-up, his gratitude shines, thanking me for the opportunity. His managers’ comments below show why, on his one-year anniversary with JP Graphics, Ramon was named Employee of the Month.
- “Ramon always has perfect time cards, never forgets to clock in or out and take his breaks.” ~ Michelle
- “Ramon and Jonathan are like a ‘Dynamic Duo’, they learn quickly, work fast, and do not make mistakes.” ~ Norbi
- “Ramon is always busy and looking for something to do.” ~ Claudia
- “Ramon has a smile on his face, you can see how happy he is working here.” ~ Debbie
- “Ramon is dedicated and very hard working.” ~ Joe
- “I call these boys in bindery ‘Mis Hijos’, because they are like my children. Great kids, with good work ethics, and so I feel the future of JP Graphics will be bright, we just need to get the sales up.” ~ Joan
As we face these challenges, I’m reminded of a classic printing industry quote: “The printed page transcends time and space”.
At JP Graphics, we’re not just printing pages; we’re building a resilient team ready for the next surge. Thank you to Ramon and our entire crew for keeping the presses rolling and the spirit strong.
