Congratulations to Pheap Mai, our Employee of the month for July. “Mai” as we call her here, started to work for JP Graphics in April 2004 as a press operator on our 2-color Hamada. She was incredible on the press, fast and accurate, with a great attention to detail.
These skills were needed when we moved to our Kodak direct imaging press – waterless ink at a 200-line screen, and we asked Mai to be the operator.
Mai was a little apprehensive as the Kodak machine had a digital/computer element, but it was still just a press, and she quickly mastered this new format of printing. It was revolutionary at the time, this press did (and still does) 4-color printing, with ink.
As JP Graphics added more machines, Mai found herself running a lot of 4-color envelopes. Mai quickly learned our OKI printer, so she could decide to print offset or digital. She is one of the reasons, we can produce high volume mailings with 4-color envelopes. Even with bleeds!
More recently, it was Mai who turned our Anajet digital textile printer into a powerhouse. Producing everything from the coloring totebags we sell on the Etsy store, to the fun T-shirts we did for Lovefest.
Mai often saves the day when someone’s materials do not arrive on time. Printing emergency shirts for bachelor parties and functions allowing the party to go on. She is always trying to expand the Anajet’s capabilities, from figuring out how to print on headbands to custom golf towels!
When the demand for printed corrugated boxes rose due to the supply chain breakdowns earlier this year, we asked Mai to learn how to run our Xanté direct print to corrugated printer. Mai helped our pressman Mark, and could soon run the machine solo if Mark had work for his press. Mai is ultimate team player, and when she’s not on a machine, you can often find her helping the team in Bindery.
It’s easy to see why Mai was selected:
- “She does everything, the Xanté, t-shirts, print, wherever there is work, you can count on Mai to get it done and on time.” ~ Debbie
- “It’s evident Mai loves to work, whether it is the Kodak, the Anajet, or even helping Bindery, Mai is a team player that steps in to help get the job done.” ~ Joe
- “She is very productive, and always looking for more work. ~ Dave
- “Mai has always been my “girl” printer, she is so amazing and talented. She is an exceptional cook too, and often brings something special in for me. She is so clean and organized, the presses she runs, look brand new, even to this day. I hope Mai will be with me till the end. Girls in print rule!” ~ Joan
Thank you, Mai! Your knowledge of multiple machines and ability to print on a variety of mediums from envelopes and boxes to t-shirts and totes helps us show everything is better with print!
