Don’t let anyone tell you that young people don’t want to work. They just need to find their passion or reason to work, and then a good mentor to train them.  JP Graphics began the quest to find some talent in a printing industry that is supposably dying.

It really came down to telling my seasoned craftsman, that they cannot leave until they find their replacements!!! When some of the guys wanted to go down to 3 days a week, we found some amazing talent – Especially in our bindery area.

Printing is an industry that once you get in it, you just cannot seem to leave.  It is fascinating and yet so many people don’t even know what print is anymore, as we took it out of our high schools and trade schools.  But once they take a tour of JP Graphics and all the amazing equipment, it does not take long before they want to try.  Finding employees that have a secondary passion, where the combination of working at JP and another company fulfills their needs, works.

So, it is wonderful to say that Ramon Rios Gonzalez was selected as our Employee of the Month for June 2024.  Ramon started working In June 2023, and 1 year later is our EOM.  Ramon is from Nicaragua and was looking for a job in the day, as he is a gifted musician and plays gigs on nights and weekends. With English as his 2^nd language, we are fortunate to have Norbi – our Bindery Manager – who came up from sweeping floors at a print shop to being the finest most quality centric bindery manager, be the teacher of these young guys.

Starting out to do the die-cut and glue and cutting, Ramon has really taken on so many roles. His love to learn something new has been the key and you can see from the managers’ comments, the potential is unlimited.

• These guys really are so tech savvy, but we don’t have a lot of automated equipment, but if there is programming, they seem to adapt so easy, once they know what to look for – FUNDAMENTALS – they really are quick learners.” ~ Norbi

• “I can tell him in Spanish, and he gets it fast.  Bringing the jobs quickly to get on the delivery trucks. Very helpful crossover between departments.” ~ Miguel
• “Knowing that once you get into this business you don’t want to leave, showing these guys the POWER of Print, and letting them help family and friends with print projects, really empowers them to LOVE WHAT THEY DO.  So even though music is first, being the steady base provider enriches everyone.
